GOTHIC STORIES
CHARACTERISTICS OF GOTHIC NOVELS

Gothic is a genre of literature and film that covers horror, death and at times romance.
Supernatural things like vampires, ghosts are usually in gothic stories. They are meant to infer fear into people, and follow a plot of suspense and mystery.

The first Gothic stories was the Castle of Otranto, written by Horace Walpole. It was published in 1764.

The 18th and 19th centuries was when people were starting to discover the secrets of the world, science was at its finest. However, there were many questions which did not have answers, so they took to the supernatural for the unknown
